HUNHOFF HLAVAC, BETTY Betty Hunhoff Hlavac, age 85 of Scotland passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Scotland. Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. George’s Catholic Church, Scotland with Rev. Randy Phillips officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton approximately 1:30 PM. Visitations will 5-7 PM, Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 6:00 PM Rosary and a 6:30 Prayer service with Msgr. Carlton Hermann officiating. Betty was born in Yankton, South Dakota to Edward and Helen Hacecky (Cwach) on June 17, 1931. She attended Fairview Grade School, Yankton High School, Briar Cliff College and Mount Marty College. She taught in several country grade schools in Yankton County. She loved dances and was the life of any party. She met Herb Hunhoff and was married March 26, 1951 and they raised four children on their farm in Yankton County, which holds many warm and wonderful memories mixed in with lots of hard work. They were married for 33 years until Herb’s death on September 27, 1984. On April 11, 1987, Betty married Emil Hlavac and they lived in Ashland, OH, as well as Yankton and Scotland, South Dakota. Married for 22 years, they enjoyed many road trips together. Betty enjoyed to travel and two of her favorite adventures were to Brazil and Hawaii. Betty loved cooking, entertaining, playing scrabble, and putting puzzles together. She looked forward to Czech days every year, especially since her birthday was celebrated at the same time. Betty is survived by her sister, JoAnn (Robert) Stransky of Denver, CO; her daughter, Beth (David) Leaneagh of Minneapolis, MN; her sons, Tim (Susan) Hunhoff of Enid, OK and Tony (Christine) Hunhoff of Clayton, CA; her daughter-in-law, Lori (John) Hunhoff of Harrisburg, SD, and Emil’s son, Tom (Michelle) Hlavac of Scotland, SD; grandchildren: Larissa Weisgerber, Laci Gettings, Joshua Hunhoff, Channy Leaneagh, Ashley Hunhoff, Jesse Leaneagh, Benjamin Hunhoff, Andy Hunhoff, Ryan Stickney, James Hlavac, Kristina Hlavac, Amber Buller, Larisa Blosser; great-grandchildren: Jayden Weisgerber, Lilli Weisgerber, Asher Gettings, Myla Gettings, Blake Hunhoff, Broxton Hunhoff, Pelagia Casselle, Schwa Olson, Mela Villalon Hunhoff, Kiersten Edmison, Blake Edmison, Carson Blosser, Kylee Blosser and Cade Blosser and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Ed and Helen Hacecky; her brothers, Alvin and Robin; her sisters-in-law, Grace and Virginia; the loves of her life, Herb, Emil and her son, John; her nephew, Dennis and her nieces, Vonnie and Joanie. It was a glorious reunion! Memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Society, 130 6th Street, Scotland, SD in honor of Betty G. Hunhoff-Hlavac.
