MALSON THOMAS Thomas (Tom) Malson, age 41, of Avon, SD, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Thursday, January 19, 2017 at his home. Tom's address was Avon but he considered Tyndall his hometown. A memorial service will be 4:00 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Tyndall, SD with Pastor Scott Alderink officiating. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel. Online condolences may be sent at: opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com. You can also call Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home at 800-495-9679 for details. He was born on July 19, 1975 in Berlin, WI to Richard and Ellen (Weighall) Malson. Thomas attended grade school and graduated from Berlin High School in 1993. Tom worked in several areas of agriculture. He traveled on a harvesting crew and was a truck driver for Ratzlaff Trucking in Wisconsin, delivering freight. While transporting hay from Guthmiller Farms he met David and saw his opportunity to be more involved in the agricultural field. He moved to South Dakota in 2011 to work for Guthmiller Farms as the Assistant Agricultural Manager. He was active in many realms of the farming operation including spraying, mechanic work, planting, haying, drain tiling, and harvesting. With his mechanical and electrical abilities, Tom was truly able to solve any problem on the farm. He loved production agriculture and enjoyed the people he met and worked with on a daily basis. He was blessed with two daughters, Natalie and Kaylee, whom he loved with all his heart. The girls visited him in the summer months and during Christmas vacations. They traveled many places together including a special summer trip to the Black Hills. Tom enjoyed spending time with the girls playing the X-box, sledding and taking them on shopping trips. He also had a love of music, a love he shared with Natalie and Kaylee. For recreation he would drive his gator or Harley during any spare time. His positive outlook reflected onto many aspects of his life. His witty sense of humor brightened everyone’s day. He enjoyed visiting with close friends, neighbors and co-workers. His day always began with his favorite cup of coffee and ended with petting his pug Sherman. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Thomas is survived by his two beautiful daughters, Natalie and Kaylee; brothers, Donald (Marietta) Malson, Randall Malson; sister, Cheryl (Lowell) Bladow; nephews, Dylan (Heather) Malson, Dalton Malson; nieces, Mackenzie Malson, Savannah Neubauer; great nephews, Boe Gaastra and Lane Malson. He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Gladys Malson; maternal grandparents, John and Neva Weighall; paternal grandparents, Richard and Ellen Malson; and other relatives and friends.
