Lois Peterka

Obituary of Lois A. Peterka

Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lois was born November 24th, 1939 to William and Daisy Schutte in Estelline, SD.  She attended school in Estelline until graduating in 1959.  Upon graduating, she attended classes at IBM studying computers.  She returned to Brookings, SD to work admissions at South Dakota State University.  Here, she met her husband, Ronald Peterka and they married February 14th, 1962.  They moved to Yankton, SD in 1963 and opened Peterka's Market.  She ran operations until closing in 1982.  After Ron passed away in 1989, she started working at Klay Korner with Brenda Adams.  She considered these to be the best years in her life as the people she met and relationships created were special.  Upon Brenda's passing in 2003, she helped close "the shop" and decided to retire.  During retirement, she could always be found reading novels or watching western movies.

Lois is survived by her son, Mark (Adelaida) Peterka of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Felicia Somers of Kankakee, IL; grandson, Geoffrey Somers of Yankton, SD and special friend, Pam Hamilton of Yankton, SD.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents, William and Daisy Schutte; brothers, Arthur and Harry Schutte; sister-in-law, Carol Schutte; husband, Ronald Peterka; son, Kenneth Peterka and daughter, Renee Somers.
