Obituary of Renee Lynn Somers
SOMERS RENEE
Renee (Peterka) Somers was born January 21st, 1965 to Ronald and Lois Peterka of Yankton, South Dakota. As a child, she attended Lincoln Elementary school along with helping her mother running the cash register at her parent’s grocery store, Peterka’s Market. She later attended Yankton High School, graduating in 1983. She had a natural love for the theatre and participated in numerous school plays. She later attended nursing classes at Mount Marty College until moving with her brother, Mark to San Diego, CA.
In San Diego, CA, she worked for General Dynamics until she met her husband, Richard Somers. They married April 1st, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After getting married, they decided to move back home to Yankton, SD. She worked various jobs including Yesterday’s Cafe until 1997 where she started working at First National Service Center. She credits 18 years at First National to incredible co-workers.
She had always stated the two greatest moments of her life were the birth of her children. In her spare time, she could be seen watching soap operas or participating in karaoke with several close friends.
Renee is survived by her mother, Lois Peterka of Yankton, SD; brother, Mark Peterka of Jacksonville, FL; son, Geoffrey Somers of Yankton, SD; daughter, Felicia Somers of Kankakee, IL; step-son, Christopher Somers of Kankakee, IL; special friends, Sue Dimick of Sioux Falls, SD and Wanda Hardisty of Council Bluffs, IA.
Renee is preceded in death by her father, Ronald Peterka; brother, Kenneth Peterka; husband, Richard Somers; uncles, Lawrence Peterka, Harry Schutte & Arthur Schutte.
