Lucy Holdorf, age 88 of Yankton, SD passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.
Lucy was born January 29, 1931 to Maurice and Julia Ketter (Wiebelhaus) in Hartington, Nebraska .
She grew up the oldest of 7 siblings in the Wynot, Nebraska area. She moved with her family to California and lived there during WWII. The family moved back to the Wynot area where she graduated high school. She attended Wayne State College and received her teaching certificate, going on to teach in a country school in Nebraska, something she spoke of fondly and was very proud of. Lucy moved to Yankton in 1959, where she raised 6 children and held several jobs throughout her life. Most notably and her favorites were: church secretary at Sacred Heart church; secretary for the National guard stationed in Yankton and working with and for her dear friend, Gary Boom.
Lucy taught herself the art of painting. She loved watching Robert Ross on PBS and even managed to get her mom, sisters, brother and sister- in-law involved. They had wonderful painting parties. Talent aside, there was no shortage of laughter.
Lucy made friends and kept things interesting everywhere she went, even in the last months of her life; making new friends at Sister James. She loved having people around and will be missed.
Lucy is survived by 5 children: Dawn Steffes of Yankton, SD, Lance Holdorf of Yankton, SD, Donna Freng of Yankton, SD, Julie (Bob)Bos of Sioux Falls, SD, Tracy (Jay)Gurney of Yankton, SD; 3 sisters: Doral Schroeder of Wynot, NE, Norma Foster of Wynot, NE, Linda Stodola of Fremont. NE; 2 brothers, Maurice Jr (Nadine) Ketter of Wynot, NE, Stanley Ketter of Wynot, NE; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Lucy was proceded in death by her parents; 1 son, Lynn Holdorf; 1 son-in-law, Marvin Steffes; 1 brother, Ronald Ketter; 1 sister, Sandra Ketter and 3 brothers-in-law, Glen Foster, Don Schroeder, and Milo Stodola.
