I first met Cena when I was living in one of the renovated condos at the old Kochi Motel up on 81 back in the early 1980s. I had a small one, she had a huge one in the building right by the pool. I met her one day when sitting at the pool and, being Cena, she invited us up to see hers and, and the newest one she had just purchased, the old honeymoon sweet, that she was renovating. As we all know, there was an entrepreneurial magic about her. Years later, I saw that someone had renovated the old Fantle building into an event center and later hotel. When my parents were still alive and we would come to Yankton to visit, we decided to stay there when it was finished. We were the first people so stay in the number 8 suite when the renovation was complete. Like Cena, it was amazing. I actually did not realize that it was Cena who was the mastermind behind the project until we were sitting in the, at the time, basement restaurant, and she came out to talk to us, telling us historical factoids about the building and their work. She looked familiar and I asked her if she owned a condo at the old Airport Condos decades ago. It was then that she seemed to adopt us as part of hers and Curt’s family. Of course, she will be forever woven into the Yankton family as the magical matriarch whose passion created a new purpose for old downtown structures, forming the identity of Yankton, that would have certainly been lost to the past. God Bless you, Cena, and the joy that you have brought to others and to Yankton.

Dear Curt and Family, We want you to know that we are thinking of you with deepest sympathy, and hope you will find comfort in the many joyful memories of Cena. . We knew Cena to be generous and fun loving, with a big heart full of community spirit.. We have not forgotten that she not only opened her doors to the Brewery for a meeting of the Yankton Democrats, she did it at no charge. We will always be grateful for our daughter’s beautiful wedding reception held at the Brewery as well, where everyone had a fabulous fun filled evening. Cena was one of a kind, and will be truly missed. With our deepest sympathy, Jay and Carol Williams
