CAHOY STEVE

Steven Eugene Cahoy, 83 years old of Tabor, SD passed away at home on January 31, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM, Friday, February 7, 2025 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Tabor, SD with Rev. Steve was born at home on his family parents’ farm to Rudolph and Ella (Pisek) Cahoy on December 25, 1941.

He attended Tabor Catholic Grade School. He went to Tabor Hight School and graduated in 1959. Steve served in the Army from 1960-1962 while stationed in Alaska.

He married the love of his life, Janice Bohlmann, on May 28, 1963. They started their life together on a dairy farm north of Tabor and lived there for 10 years, where they had four children: Gregory, Chad, Jolene, and Brenda.

In 1973 they moved into the town of Tabor and resided there until the time of his death. He worked for two years as a machine operator before owning and operating the Czech Inn Supper Club in Tabor from 1975-1980. After that, he worked various custodial jobs until his retirement. After retiring, he did some part time work for Jim Matney at National Coin and Stamp Company in Tyndall, SD.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, site-seeing in the Black Hills, trips to Deadwood, gardening, camping at Lewis & Clark Lake, and visiting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He participated in the Czech Heritage Community Plays where he spoke and sang in Czech. He was also a member of the Catholic Workman Association for over 50 years.

He is survived by his wife: Janice (Bohlmann) Cahoy of Tabor, SD; children:

Gregory (Sandra) Cahoy of Yankton, SD; Chad (Robin) Cahoy of Mitchell, SD; Jolene (Ken) Shuman of Durham, NH; Brenda (Eric) Doggett of Killeen, Tx; grandchildren: Ben Cahoy (Tyler Monick) of Sioux Falls, SD; Molly (Phil) Becker of Mitchell, SD; Mason (Autumn) Cahoy of Sioux Falls, SD; Mitchell Shuman of Durham, NH; Emily Shuman of Durham, NH; Brandon Doggett of Killeen, Tx; great-grandchildren: Trace, Everett, Brooks, and Macklen Becker of Mitchell, SD; Hudson Cahoy of Sioux Falls, SD; sibling: sister Marcy Ruman of Tyndall, SD; in-laws: Lumir Ruman of Tyndall, SD; Marilyn Cahoy of Tyndall, SD. And many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rudolph and Ella Cahoy; his parents in-laws Richard and Maggie Bohlmann; his brothers Edward, Joseph (in infancy), and Raymond Cahoy; his sisters Helen Maruska and Marie Hisek; his in-laws Norma Cahoy, Irene Cahoy, Joe Maruska, and Leonard Hisek and numerous nieces and nephews.
