
Obituary of Rev. Robert Mason
Pastor Robert Mason, age 92, of Yankton, SD, departed this earth for his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton.
Robert (Bob) Roy Mason was born July 23, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, where he spent his entire childhood, to Harold and Lela Mason. He was the oldest of three sons. Bob gave his life to follow Jesus at a Billy Graham Crusade and this determined the course of his life. Following graduation he worked for the railroad to finance his college education. He worked for the Grand Trunk, Burlington and Rock Island railroads which began a lifelong hobby.
He also attended Bible Colleges in Detroit, Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Wheaton, Illinois. While at Wheaton College he met Dorcas Carrithers and they were married September 8, 1956. In 1957 he graduated from Wheaton with a major in Biblical Archeology.
Bob pastored churches in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Summerset, Iowa, Fairmount, Illinois, Danville, Illinois Silver Lake, Wisconsin and Cambridge, Iowa during the years Bob and Dorcas were raising their four sons. Bob later worked for Dilly Mfg. in Des Moines, Iowa. In 2006, after Bob retired, they moved to Yankton, SD to live near three of their boys. Bob served as Associate Pastor at Kingsway Christian Church/Redeeming Grace Bible Church for many years. Bob has lived the last three years at Sister James Care Center together with his wife Dorcas.
Bob is survived by his wife Dorcas Mason of Yankton; four sons: Dan (Karen) Mason of Yankton, Joe (Cindy) Mason of Yankton, Tim (Roxanne) Mason of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and James Mason of Yankton; two granddaughters: Sarah (Shawn) Morgan of San Diego, CA and Jessica Tjeerdsma of Yankton; eight great grandchildren: Morgan, Shelby, Lexus, Isaac, Zane, Hanadi, Asia and Mia; and one great great grandson, Brian.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lela Mason; and two brothers: John and Tom.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Redeeming Grace Bible Church in Yankton with Pastor Raymond Solberg and Pastor Joe Mason officiating. Interment at the Yankton Cemetery will take place at a later date. Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
