Elvin W. Parish, age 96, of Yankton, SD passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015 in Hospice Care at Good Samaritan Society, Scotland, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 1st Assembly, Yankton, SD with Rev. Jeff Mantz officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery, Yankton, SD with Military Graveside Rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791 Honor Guard and the SDARNG Honor Guard. Visitations will be 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD and then one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers are: Jamie Parish, Don Parish, Jason Rauscher, Ryan Sieler, Shane Sieler, Zack Conrad.
Elvin Wayne Parish, son of Guy and Cora (Mosher) Parish, was born on December 12th 1918 at Dixon, SD. He enlisted in the army in 1941 and served until 1945. He was stationed in Europe during WWII. On May 17 1947 he married Erma Stroh and to this union, five children were born: Lyle, Larry, Darlene, Darlys and Deanne.
Elvin worked in various farming and road construction jobs around Gregory until 1960. At that time he moved to Yankton where he was employed at the Human Services Center until 1973. He worked as a janitor for a manufacturing plant from 1974 to 1978. He retired in 1983 and spent his time hunting and fishing and enjoying his grandkids.
Elvin is survived by his sisters, Naomi (Darrel) Roggow of Gregory, SD, Verna (Ed) Stroh of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Martin Parish of Hemet, CA; sons, Lyle (Donett) Parish of Yankton, SD, Larry (Sandy) Parish of Yankton SD; daughter, Darlys (Pat) Moulten of Phoenix AZ; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Elvin is preceded in death by his wife, Erma of 65 years; 2 daughters, Darlene Carley and Deanne Rauscher; grandsons, Willie Parish and Tommy Rauscher Jr.; great-grandson, Joseph Frey; brothers, Dale, Ray, Neal, Guy Jr.; sisters, Jesse, Mary Ann, Gladys and Shirley.
