Max was born August 29, 1915 to Charles W. Larson, Sr. and Madeline (Ames) Larson in Pipestone, MN. He moved to Yankton, SD in 1929 and graduated from Yankton High School in 1933. Upon graduation, Max joined the family business at Larson Tin Shop in downtown Yankton where he devoted himself to becoming the best sheet metal worker and heating expert possible.
On May 16, 1936, Max married Dorothy Medeck and to this union three children were born: Maxine, Douglas and Barrett. Max retired from Larson Brothers in 1978 but kept active in both of his sons' businesses. He and Dorothy would go on to spend most of their days at the river boating, fishing and camping. Max enjoyed riding through Larson's Landing on his four-wheeler, striking up conversations and befriending the campers.
Max had a knack for building things, including various boats, his home and other MacGyver-type projects. Always on the move and a project in the works, Max kept busy working up until his last day. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge and Yankton Community Forum and an avid, daily reader. His unparalleled work ethic, quick wit, gracious and personable nature will always be remembered by those who love him.
Max is survived by his son, Douglas Larson and wife, Linda of Yankton, SD; son-in-law, Don Wermers of Rochester, MN; daughter-in-law, Diane Larson and husband, Don Edwards of Yankton, SD; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and brother, Charles Larson of Salina, KS.
