Arlene Wintersteen

Arlene Wintersteen, 67, of Olivet, SD, passed away Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Services are pending under the direction of Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home in Menno. Online condolences may be sent at www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com.

Arlene was born on February 15, 1956, to Jacob and Ione (Golden) Szulczewski in Appleton Wisconsin. Arlene had a twin sister Marlene, two other sisters Lois and Jan and one brother Lynn. In 1962 Arlene moved to a farm near Seymour Wisconsin until her dad passed away in 1965. She then moved to Wisconsin Rapids. On January 3, 1975, Arlene married her first husband John Manion in the state of Washington. On February 2, 1975, she welcomed her daughter Mary. On August 25, 1985, she welcomed her son Cody and then on March 16, 1991, she married Cody’s dad Scott Scheller in Wisconsin Rapids. In 1992 Arlene moved with her children and husband to Mitchell South Dakota. She married Mark Wintersteen on February 16, 1996. She worked at Sunshine Foods in the deli department until she moved to Olivet SD with her husband and worked at the Menno nursing home in the kitchen until she retired. Arlene enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading true crime books, gardening and watching birds. In her house there isn't an empty spot because she had some type of plant. She spoiled her fat cat Fang, decorating her house with beautiful things and ordering things for people off of Amazon. 

Arlene is survived by her husband Mark, her daughter Mary and Son Cody, stepdaughter Melissa, grandchildren Emma, Connor, Isabelle, Joseph, Harley and Annaleigh, her brother Lynn, sisters Lois and Jan. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and twin sister Marlene.
