Geneva A. Mueller, age 96, of Yankton, SD passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House. On-line condolences may be sent at: www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com.
Geneva was born December 4, 1919 at rural Hartington, NE. to Gerhard and Rose (Weibelhaus) Kuehn. At the age of six her parents moved to a farm west of Yankton. She graduated from Yankton High school and attended Mt. Marty College for one year obtaining a teaching certificate. She taught two years at Fairyview #75, a rural Utica school where she met a young farmer who later became her husband.
She married Ted Mueller in 1941. They lived on the family farm and raised five children. In 2009 they retired and moved to Yankton. Geneva worked on the farm along with Ted. Gardening, canning, and taking care of the family also kept her busy for many years. After the kids were grown, she worked at Gurneys and also at Mt. Marty in the food service.
Geneva is survived by her children, Carol (Ron) Schatz of Scotland,SD, Virginia Bertelsen-Cook of Moline, IL, James (Patty) Mueller of Raynham, MA, Jean (Dennis) Stibral of Yankton and Joyce (Dick) Lane of Yankton; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Ted in 2011; her parents, Rose and Gerhard Kuehn; sisters, Marcella and Norma; brothers, Robert and Irvin; daughter-in-law, Barbara Mueller and son-in-law, Dan Cook.
