Alan was born on January 6, 1948 in Yankton, SD to Rudy and Agnes (Larson) Dobesh. He attended school in Wagner SD, graduated in 1966 and went on to study at Southern State College in Springfield, SD. After marrying Cheryl Boeckermann on August 30, 1969 in Parkston, SD and being blessed with two children, Jeff and Jennifer, they settled in Elkton, SD. Here Alan worked in the concrete construction business. Alan was involved locally by playing softball, golf and bowling, and serving on the Elkton City Council. Life’s journey took Alan to Yankton, SD where he took a job at Applied Engineering, moved close to his mother, step-father, brother and sister and was actively involved encouraging and impacting the lives of many through his involvement in the Alcoholics Anonymous. Alan was known for his love of the New York Yankees, music, knowledge of and playing the game of golf, coffee at the Frying Pan, anything trivia, and his quick wit and sense of humor. He loved to play, for hours, pinochle with Jeff and cribbage with Jennifer, but nothing meant more to him than spending time with his six grandkids. Nothing brought him more joy and peace than reading books, playing board games, taking day trips, and watching them play sports.
Those grateful for having shared in his life include his mother, Agnes (Ken) Hagen of Yankton, SD; his brother, Rudy Ray Dobesh of Yankton, SD; sister, Jill Perk of Yankton, SD; and two children, Jeff (Danica) Dobesh of Durango, CO and Jennifer (Luke) Rahe of Lismore, MN; six grandchildren: Nathan, Andy, Hannah, Micah, Joe, and Jack and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rudy Dobesh, and an infant sister, Susan.
