Lavern Aisenbrey was a family man, family farmer, trucker, bus driver and ag employee who believed in God, family and country. He was a dedicated veteran who served in Korea during the most difficult parts of the war. Lavern was a long time Farmers Union leader who strongly supported cooperatives. He believed very strongly in educating our young people in the importance of cooperatives and belonging to them as active members.Lavern fought hard for fair prices and parity for family farmers.Lavern was never afraid to question the practices of the boards he served on to make sure they were being run properly, honestly and frugally. He loved his family and talked proudly about the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. Lavern loved his wife Alice very much and stood by her side with her health issues driving her to the Dr and making sure she was taken care of. He was very conservative and penny wise, not pound foolish. Lavern was a hard worker, spending many hours farming and trucking livestock to the local and regional livestock auctions. He was very good at telling stories and practical jokes. Lavern earned the nickname " Lucky Lavern" for his antedotes and ability to be at the right place at the right time. One of his favorite sayings was "Oh you think so" followed by his chuckle that made everyone smile. Lavern was a friend to all and a fool to no one. He strongly support health care reform and healthcare for everyone. He even participated in a national television commercial on the subject. Lavern Aisenbrey was a person who believed in the good in people. He was a very fair and honest man in his dealings and in the game of life. He was never afraid of a hard days work or to express his opinions on the subjects of the day. He and Alice loved to garden and grew much in their small garden in Menno and on the farm. Lavern Aisenbery will be greatly missed for all he did especially for the family farms and cooperatives of our area, state and nation. Deepest sympathy to you Alice and your family.
