Obituary of Kenneth L. Hagen

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ken was born near Volin, SD to Jorgen and Ragna (Roley) Hagen on November 13, 1924.  He attended 8 years of grammar school.  He enlisted in the Army January 19, 1945 where he was a Tech 5 Radio Operator and honorably discharged on August 7, 1946.  Ken then moved home to the family acreage to farm.  He was a member of Trondhjem Lutheran Church, served on the Cemetery Board and was a member of the American Legion Post 193 in Irene, SD.

On April 6, 1974, Ken was united in marriage to Agnes (Larson) Dobesh.  They enjoyed 43 years of love and joy prior to his wife's passing in January 2017.  Ken and Agnes were true soulmates in every sense of the word.  Upon retiring from farming in 1986, they moved to Yankton.  They were members of St. John's Lutheran Church and The Center.

Ken was a wonderful stepfather to Rudy, Al and Jill.  He was always available to his family and friends, whether it be to listen, give advice or offer a shoulder to lean on.  He was a man of great moral character and it showed in all aspects of his life.  Ken was a Yankee fan and a Minnesota Viking fan.  He loved to talk sports.  He enjoyed reading, word-search puzzles, Solitaire, taking strolls and visiting with his "family" at Sunrise Apartments.

Grateful for having shared in Ken's life are his son, Rudy Dobesh; daughter, Jill Perk, both of Yankton, SD; grandchildren:  Jeff (Danica) Dobesh of Durango, CO, Kristin (Larry) McKeever-Bracy of Chesterfield, VA, Jennifer (Luke) Rahe of Lismore, MN; great-grandchildren:  Hannah, Micah, Carter, Riley, Chris, Nathan, Andy, Joe and Jack; sister-in law, Ardys Hagen of Venice, FL; several nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes; brothers:  Olin, Carl, Hilmer and Conrad Hagen; sister, Ruth Bjornebo Freng and son, Alan Dobesh.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Jill Perk, 807 Dakota Street, Apt. 1, Yankton, SD 57078.  Memorials will be distributed to various charities supported by Ken.
