Wigton, Barbara
Barbara Renee Wigton (Henze), age 55 of Yankton, SD passed away peacefully into eternity on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton after a brief but intense battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory in Yankton. Online condolences may be made to: www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com.
Barbara was born on October 13, 1964 in Huron, SD to James and Rose (Esche) Henze. She spent her childhood on the family farm in Tulare, SD. Many happy hours were spent playing in the groves and fields that surrounded the farm and large family gatherings provided an abundance of cousins to add to the merriment. As a farm girl, Barb learned how to work hard and the “farm-kid” work ethic made her a valuable employee throughout her life.
Barb was quick with a smile and a laugh. She was a good friend to all. She loved her people and she loved her dog. She will be missed.
Barbara is survived by her mother, Rose Henze; two sisters, Rhonda Hansen and Brenda Henze-Nelson; brother, Dennis Henze; five children: Tiffany, Joshua, Jeremy, Christine and Cameron; five grandchildren and an abundance of good friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father; grandparents and one grandchild.
The family of Barbara Wigton would like to express profound gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, therapists, chaplains and caregivers of all kinds at Sacred Heart Hospital and Sister James Care Center for the excellent care you provided for our loved one. Thanks, also, to Pastor Jan for your ministry. The great compassion you showed for her, the respect and dignity you gave her, will always be remembered and appreciated. Thank you all.
