Obituary of Edward Gene Meng Sr.

Edward “Ed” Gene Meng, Sr., age 68, of Yankton, SD passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.  Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Christ Episcopal Church, Yankton, SD with Fr. Edward Gene Meng, Sr. was born on October 8, 1954, to Henry A. Meng, Sr. and Matilda P. (Moose) Meng in Yankton, SD.  He attended school in Yankton and Saint Elizabeth.  He worked at the stockyards as a security guard in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Returning back to South Dakota, he did roofing and worked at Kettering Law Office.  Ed loved playing softball, basketball, and fishing.  He was always there to help people.  From a first marriage, Ed was the father of three children:  Barbara, and Myra, Ed Jr.  On January 4, 1990, he married Tammy Engbrecht and together they had three children: Cory, Kayla, and Ashley.

Those who will cherish his memory are two sons: Ed (Cheryl) Meng, Jr. of Sioux Falls, SD and Cory (Cassie) Meng of Yankton, SD; four daughters:  Myra (Michael) Meng of Sioux Falls, SD, Kayla (Eric) Meng of Sioux Falls, SD, Ashley (Dennis) Meng Olson of Yankton, SD, and Barbara Tschetter of Spokane, WA; 17 grandchildren; three sisters: Norma Pittler of Dallas, OR, Sheryl Segura of Albuquerque, NM and Sharon Montoya of Las Vegas, NV and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents: Jesse and Hazel Meng and Steven and Mercy Moose and three brothers and one sister.
