Susie Kitto, age 69 of Santee, NE passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD.  Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, November 11, 2024 at the Oyate Oyanke Community Center, Santee, NE.  Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the Oyate Oyanke Community Center, Santee, NE and continue until service time.  There will be a Scripture service each evening at 7:00 PM.  Burial will be in the Congregational Cemetery, Santee, NE.  The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton, SD is assisting with the service details.  Online condolences may be sent at: www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com

Susan Lynne McBride was born to Morris McBride and Mae ‘Chubby’ Drapeau on April 5th, 1955, in Wagner, SD. Susan was the youngest girl out of her 9 siblings: Kenneth ‘Peanuts’ McBride, Harold McBride, Sharon McBride, Donna McBride, Carol (McBride) Trudell, Russell ‘Jake’ McBride, Gloria (McBride) Rave, Maurice ‘JR’ McBride, and Gerald McBride.

 

Susie Attended Marty Indian School and Flandreau Public School. She later received a certificate in General Education and then graduated in the early 80s with a degree in Business Administration from Nebraska Indian Community College.

 

Susie met Richard ‘Rick’ Kitto in 1972 and later married him on November 26th, 1976. Rick passed on August 6th, 1995. From this union Susie and Rick had 6 children: Troy McBride, Rico, Rochelle, Silas, Sean, and Sirius Kitto.

 

Susie was the Santee Public School secretary for 10 years and then retired. She then started a new career path with the Santee Sioux Nation for 20 years plus. Susie was the Santee Sioux Nation Transit Manager and served on the Village Board as the Vice Chairman.

 

In June of 2002, a blessing was sent to Susie. She met Hilario Rojas of Yankton, SD and they later married on April 4th, 2003. Susan and Hilario became one big, blended family with Susan’s children. Susan and Hilario had 24 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

 

Susan enjoyed cooking, beading, reading, and coloring. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins. Having family get togethers always brightened her day! She loved the Holidays and powwows.

 

Susan suddenly fell ill on October 22nd, 2024, in Winnebago, NE and was transferred to Mercy Medical Center and dismissed on October 25th, 2024. Susan was admitted to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital on October 29th, 2024, and did not recover from her illness which led to her journey home on November 5th, 2024. Susie was proceeded in death by her parents Morris and Mae McBride; her brothers Kenneth ‘Peanuts’, Harold, Russell ’Jake’, Maurice ‘JR’, Gerald and sisters Sharon, Donna, and Gloria McBride; her son Troy and first husband Richard Kitto. She is survived by her sister Carol Trudell, her 5 children Rico, Rochelle, Silas, Sean, and Sirius and numerous takoja (grandchildren and great grandchildren), nieces, nephews, and cousins!
