Obituary of Edwin Boyles II

Edwin "Wally" Boyles II, age 87 of Yankton passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, March 6, 2015 at Christ Episcopal Church, Yankton with Rev. James Pearson officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be in the Yankton Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791, Yankton and the South Dakota Army National Guard Honor Guard, Sioux Falls, SD. Visitations will begin at 5 PM, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7 PM prayer service followed by a Masonic Lodge Service by St. John's Lodge #1 AF & AM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Wally was born 9/6/1927 to Louis A Boyles and Alvina Schatz Boyles at Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton SD. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Episcopal Church. Living in Yankton all of his life he graduated Yankton High School and Yankton College. He enlisted in the Army and served in World War II and the Korean War. Upon his graduation from Yankton College in 1953, he continued his business career at the Yankton Savings and Loan until his retirement in 1990. He married Elloween Riden in Howard, South Dakota on April 18, 1954. Wally served in many positions at Christ Episcopal Church. He participated in many local organizations including: Community Concerts and was a 50+ year member of the Rotary, American Legion, BPOE Lodge, Scottish Rite, and St John's Lodge #1 AF & AM. He was a 2 term Mayor 1972-1973 and City Council member 1969-1975 for the City of Yankton. Wally is survived by his wife, Elloween "Gert": sons, Gerald Boyles and Frederick (Vicky) Boyles: daughters, Victoria Beacom and Katherine (Dan) Erickson. Nine grandchildren: Jacob, Colin, and Carey Beacom, Gary and Careea Collins, Grace and Madison Erickson, Stephanie Nowland, Kara Franzen and 5 great grandchildren. Surviving sisters, Betty Kerns and MaryAnn Anderson: sister in law, Kathy Boyles; brother and sister in law, Larry and Joan Riden. Preceding him in death were his parents, uncle and aunt, Freeman and Marion Otto, brother, John Boyles, sister, Lois Peterson, brothers in law: Charles Peterson, Roger Kerns and Darrell Anderson. Urn bearers are the grandchildren and the great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christ Episcopal Church Book of Remembrance or Scottish Rite Speech and Hearing Clinic.
