Charles "Chuck" L. Kennedy, age 65 of Yankton passed away on Thursday, January 08, 2015 at his residence. Visitations will be from 5-7 PM with a 7:00 PM Memorial Service on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton with Rev. Rod Veldhuizen officiating.
Charles (Chuck) Kennedy was born to Kenneth and Olive Kennedy on April 24, 1949 in Webster, SD. His father worked for the government and the family moved several times during his childhood. They lived in South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and finally settled in North Platte, NE. Here is where he met the love of his love, Marcia. They married on June 25, 1980. They lived in North Platte for a short time. This is where he began his printing career. They then moved to Aberdeen, then Vermillion and finally to Yankton in 1983.
Chuck worked for Yankton Printing Company until he started his hobby printing shop company initially in the back room of their home. He later built and ran his print shop next door which was called; CL Kennedy Ink, hobby printer, until he was diagnosed with cancer in October 2014,
Chuck was well known for his extensive knowledge of just about everything, his love for his wife, Marcia and her five children, which he called his own. He loved to visit, play with his grandchildren, draw, and he had a passion for trains. He had a large train track set up in the back room of their home for both him and his grandchildren to play with.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia of Yankton, SD; five children: Bruce of Yankton, SD, Robert (Jodie) of Missouri, Brad (Lindy) of Yankton, SD, Tom Slagle of Yankton, SD and Maria McLoud of Yankton, SD; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Juliane) Kennedy of Colorado and John (Brenda) Kennedy of South Dakota; two sisters, Jean (Gene) Washam of Colorado, and Julie (Robert) Mitzven of California, several nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles and many business associates and friends around Yankton and surrounding communities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandchild and three brothers-in-law.
There will be an open house at CL Kennedy Ink on Wednesday January 14 from 1-3 for all of Chuck's friends, customers and fellow printers to come and visit with his family.
