Obituary of Lenora R. Schaeffer

Lenora R. Schaeffer, age 87, of Freeman, SD and formerly of Yankton, SD, died Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Oakview Terrace, Freeman SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, October 24, 2014 at Peace Christian Reformed Church, Menno, SD with Rev. Steve Moerman officiating. Burial will be in the Saron Cemetery, rural Yankton, at approximately 12:45 PM. Visitations will be 5 to 8 PM, Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the Peace Christian Reformed Church Menno, SD and then one hour prior to the service at the church. The Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, is assisting with service details.
Pallbearers will be Harry Munkvold, John Munkvold, Wesley Schaeffer, Jared Schaeffer, Daniel Auch and Douglas Auch. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Lenora's nieces and nephews.
Lenora Schaeffer was born in Hutchinson County to Emil and Katherine (Goebel) Schaeffer on December 23, 1926. She was baptized by Rev. Bodenman and confirmed by Rev. Kaempchen. She attended country school and graduated from Menno High School. As a teenager, she worked in the cafe in Menno. Lenora lived in Yankton all her years except the last 4 ½ years. While in Yankton, Lenora worked at Fantles Department Store, Yankton Courthouse, and as a secretary at Northwestern Public Service until her retirement. Gardening, bowling, and bus tours with her friends were her favorites. She enjoyed spending time with her brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. She was a lifetime member of Peace Christian Reformed Church in Menno.
Thankful for sharing her life: brother, Calvin (Alice) Schaeffer of Yankton, SD; sisters: Viola Munkvold of Menno, SD, Darlene Kost of Letcher, SD, Alvina (Robert) Auch of Lesterville, SD; sister-in-law, Deloris Schaeffer of Menno, SD and many nieces and nephews.
Those who preceded Lenora in death were her parents, brother, Wilfred Schaeffer, infant brother and sister, brother-in-law, Jerome Munkvold, nephews, Don Munkvold and Gene Lang, great nephews, Derek Schaeffer and Wade Lang, her niece, Rita Munkvold , great nieces Cody Meier and Christina Munkvold.
