Loretta Jones, age 85 of Yankton, SD, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, December 30, 2013 at the United Church of Christ (Congregational) 201 West 5th, Yankton, with Rev. Dr. Paul M. Opsahl officiating. Burial will be in the Yankton Cemetery at 1:00 PM following the service and luncheon, at Pilgrim Hall. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, is assisting with service details. Pallbearers are: John Varvel, Gordon Brown, Bill Bobzin, Roger Willcut, and Dan Somsen and Don Kettering. Honorary Pallbearers are P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AS, Yankton, SD.
Loretta was born April 18, 1928, in Alpena, SD, to Andrew and Lydia (Feiok) Aisenbrey, the youngest of five children. Loretta grew up in Alpena and graduated from Alpena High School in 1946. Following graduation, she was employed as a bank teller in Alpena and Brookings.
On March 22, 1953, she married Ken Jones, a pharmacy student at South Dakota State University, Brookings. Following graduation, Ken entered the U. S. Army, Medical Service Corps. Loretta was able to accompany her husband to his military duty stations. Upon completion of Ken's military service and becoming a Registered Pharmacist, Ken & Loretta purchased Valley Drug at Valley Springs, SD. Loretta loved decorating the drug store windows and working at the soda fountain.
In July 1958, they relocated to Yankton, SD, to become a partner in Yankton Rexall Drug, where Loretta worked as a bookkeeper for the drug store for many years.
Loretta was an active member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational, for many years, served as treasurer of the Women's Fellowship, and was one of the "Monday Morning Money Counters" for over 30 years. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter AS, Yankton, for over 50 years.
Loretta is survived by her husband, Kenneth B. Jones, Yankton, and three children, Tim Jones, Sioux Falls, Susan Schieffer and Tom Jones of Yankton, four grandchildren: Jasmine Jones and Joy (Matthew) Beukelman, Sioux Falls, Janna (Scot) Bogle, Wichita, KS, and Dalton Freudenburg, Stuart, NE, nine great grandchildren, and one brother, Alvin Aisenbrey, Sturgis, SD, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew & Lydia Aisenbrey, brothers Amandus "Percy" Aisenbrey & Andrew Aisenbrey, and sister, Verlinda Bentson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Yankton County Historical Society, 610 Summit Street, Yankton, SD 57078, or the charity of the giver's choice.
