Thomas Lee Lyngstad, age 60, of Vermillion, SD passed away Monday, September 2, 2013 surrounded by his family at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home, Irene, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, September 6, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Thursday, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a rosary at 7:00 PM followed by at Scripture service at 7:30 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are: Bob, Dan, Larry, and Tim Lyngstad, Wanda Nelson, Jane Baarstad, and Julie Lyngstad. Honorary Pallbearers are Tom's friends at SESDAC.
Tom was born October. 12, 1952 to Wesley and Colleen (McManus) Lyngstad at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD He made his home at a group home in Vermillion, SD and was involved with SESDAC since 1975. He took pride working at the Vermillion Police Department for many years. He enjoyed going to car races, eating out with friends, and going to Mom's for family gatherings. He had a great passion for cars, trucks, tractors and a love for music.
Tom is survived by his mother, Colleen Slagle of Yankton, SD; four brothers: Bob (Marilyn) Lyngstad of Volin, SD, Dan (Jolene) Lyngstad of Irene SD, Larry (Kristie) Lyngstad of Volin, SD and Tim (Lori) Lyngstad of Edwardsville, KS; five sisters: Nancy DeVault Lyngstad of Yankton, SD, Mary (Curt) Svarstad of Irene, SD, Janet (Randy) Anderson of Irene, SD, Judy Lyngstad of Irene, SD, and Lisa Lyngstad of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Steve Ellis of Yankton, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Lyngstad, step-father, Mick Slagle, sister, Kaye Ellis, and great niece, Madisen Hackett.
