Dr. Marvin S. Dale, 96, of Yankton and formerly of Sun City West, Arizona, and Luverne, Minnesota, passed away Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Graveside services will be held later this spring at the Kenyon Cemetery in Kenyon, MN. Marvin was born on November 5, 1919, in Brinsmade, ND to Rev Stephen and Louise (Foss) Dale. He lived in many different areas as a child, with his father presiding in many congregations including different locations in Montana from 1921-1925; Bonnies Ferry, Idaho (June 1925-1927); Roslyn, SD in 1927 where he then attended grade school. In 1933 his family moved to St. James, MN, where Marvin graduated 1938. For the next 3 years Marvin attended St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN and then transferred to the University of Minnesota Dental School, graduating in 1944. He passed his dental boards in August of 1944. Marvin moved to Luverne, MN in 1945 when he bought Dr Charles Browns dental practice. Marvin started practicing in May of that year. He married Marcia Berg on June 12, 1946, in Kenyon, MN. In August of 1953 Marvin was reactivated to the armed forces as a 2nd Lieutenant and went in to the air force until August of 1955, at which time he returned to his practice in Luverne. He retired from his work in 1984 and moved to Sun City West, AZ permanently in 1988. Marcia died Dec. 23, 1991. In 2002 Marvin met Carla Cox and they remained together until his move to Yankton, SD in 2012. During his life, Marvin enjoyed playing Bridge, golf, pheasant hunting and fishing. He spent most of his life fishing on Clitherall Lake near Battle Lake, MN in the summers. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Marvin is survived by two sons: Richard (Kimberle), Yankton and Dr. Allan (special friend Maureen Mo Davidson) of Signal Mt., TN, 3 grandchildren, 4 gr grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his very special friend, Carla Cox. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marcia, and his brothers Lester (Glee), Oscar (Teddy), Otto (Janet) and infant twins. Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, is in charge of arrangements.
