Robert J. Camp, age 72, of Yankton, passed away, unexpectedly, Saturday, July 21, 2013 at his home. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Chapel, Yankton, with Rev. John Rutten officiating and Military Rites by the Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post #791 Honor Guard and the South Dakota Army Reserve National Guard. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date. Visitations will begin at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, with a prayer service at 7:30 PM and Patriot Guard Flag Line. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Robert Jerome Camp, son of Jerome and Louise (Seier) Camp was born at home near Petersburg, NE on March 14, 1941. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. John the Baptist Church in Petersburg, NE. He attended St. John the Baptist Elementary and High School, graduating with the class of 1959. Upon graduation, Bob was inducted into the US Army, Infantry Division, served active duty in Germany and was honorably discharged on May 16, 1962.
Bob was united in marriage to Lois Ann Henn on September 5, 1964, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, in Elgin, NE. In the spring of 1965, Bob and Lois made their home in Norfolk, NE until they moved to Yankton, SD in 2005.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and telling stories with his friends. He especially enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins Baseball Team.
He is survived by his son, Tim and his wife Julie Camp of Yankton, SD; daughter Jean and her husband Mike McFadden of Lakewood, Colorado; grandchildren Myles, Forrest, Gunnar, Tonia and Michael. He is also survived by his siblings and spouses, including: Bill and his wife Phyllis Camp of Elgin, NE; Jim and his wife Cathy Camp of Shawnee, KS; Meg and her husband Jerry Krause of Omaha, NE; Eileen Tiede of Omaha, NE; Shirley and her husband Larry Henn of Petersburg, NE; and Dave and his wife Charlene Camp of Albion, NE; brother-in-law Don Starman of Elgin, NE, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his parents, Jerome & Louise Camp, sister, Kathleen Starman, and brother-in-law, Charles Tiede.
