Dennis A. Peitz, age 89, of Yankton, SD and formerly of Menominee, NE, died Monday, February 18, 2013 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital , Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Friday, February 22, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD with Rev. Mark Lichter officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Yankton, SD. Visitations will begin at 5:00 PM, Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory, Yankton with a 7:00 PM rosary and a 7:30 PM Scripture Service. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are Robert Peitz, Lawrence Peitz, James Peitz, David Peitz, Darren Ellwein, and Dave Ryken.
Dennis was born January 15, 1924, in Fordyce, NE, to Frank and Mary (Loecker) Peitz and grew up on the family farm in Beaver Creek, NE. He married Clara Lucas on November 13, 1944 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Yankton, SD. They farmed in the Centerville and Gayville areas, was a lifelong farmer. They sold the farm and moved to Yankton in 1984. They enjoyed traveling and gardening. Dennis and Clara retired and moved to Yankton in 1986. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is survived by his brother, Art (Delores) Peitz of Yankton, SD; his brother-in-law, Orville Ellwein of Freeman, SD; sister-in-law, Darlene Lucas of Yankton, SD; sister-in-law, Irene Peitz of Orland, CA and many nieces and nephews.
