Ewald Herrboldt age 93, of Menno, SD passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Salem Reformed Church, Menno, with Rev. Michael Hecht officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5 to 7 PM, Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, and then one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers will be Roger Heckenlaible, Fred Sayler, Dwight Bietz, Kelly Herrboldt, Gary Simantel, Dave Walloch, Joel Weidenbach, and Jay Weidenbach.
Ewald was born on February 5, 1922 at home in Menno to Jacob and Elsie (Gall) Herrboldt. He was baptized and confirmed by Pastor Bodeman at the Salem Reformed Church in Menno where he was a lifelong member. He married Frances Weidenbach on September 5. 1944. They farmed south of Olivet until 1982 when they moved to Menno. He worked several years for Dr. Friesen and then worked 12 years for the City of Menno. He was well known around town for driving the riding lawn mower and smoking his cigar.
He is survived by his four children: Terry and his wife Diane of Tripp, Dianna Havlin of San Antonio, TX, Steve and his wife Debby of Rapid City, and Jill and Randy Von Ehwegen of Vermillion, 10 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, 1 brother Ken and his wife Ann of Menno, and 1 sister Irene Gillette of Sioux Falls. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances in 1997, one grandson and one granddaughter, and two sisters.
